Spirit Bear Lodge
First Nations bear watching lodge in the heart of The Great Bear Rainforest
With a waterfront setting in the heart of nature, Spirit Bear Lodge invites you to connect with the Kitasoo Xai’xais People, the lands and waters of their Traditional Territory, and the magnificent wildlife that call it home. Indigenous-owned, as a guest, you are afforded exclusive access to wildlife viewing areas and Cultural sites within the Kitasoo Xai’xais Traditional Territory.
During your stay, your days will be spent discovering the delights of the Great Bear Rainforest in small groups, lead by qualified guides with an intimate knowledge of the behaviour and movement patterns of the bears and other wildlife. This is the largest piece of intact temperate rainforest left on the planet, home to grizzly bears, black bears and the elusive spirit bear. Travelling by boat, visit pristine river valleys and estuaries before disembarking to explore these lush areas on foot. Visit Princess Royal Island and Spirit Bear Conservancy areas for a unique opportunity to witness the elusive spirit bear in their natural environment from hidden observation points.
In addition to dedicated wildlife tours you may also enjoy an interpretive tour of a salmon hatchery, discover an extinct volcano in Millbanke Sound, visit cultural and natural history sites and search for humpback whales on a marine adventure. Close to the lodge is one of the largest wolf populations in the area and guests often hear the wolves and see hundreds of tracks. If you wish to embark on a special wolf tour in order to increase your chances of actually seeing these beautiful creatures we can arrange this for you.
After each day of adventure and exploration, return to the restful retreat of the lodge. With just 12 guest rooms, each offering ocean or rainforest views, you are assured an intimate stay. As evening sets in you will have chance to recount your daily adventures with fellow guests as you sip on a cocktail before settling down to dinner in the 'Great Room' which is a communal affair. Evening interpretive programmes and slideshows are common place or simply relax and gaze out to the Pacific Ocean where orcas, dolphins and sea lions frolic.
