Great Bear Lodge

Almost completely self-sufficient and with a commitment to low-impact ecotourism, Great Bear Lodge is powered by wind, hydro and solar power which also ensures the wildlife is not disturbed in it's natural environment.

Each of the 8 guestrooms offer comfortable accommodation with  ensuite facilities and the common area invites you to relax and make new friends.  This is also where you will be treated to fascinating natural history presentations from the wildlife biologists. If you would rather take in the peaceful surroundings, head out to the natural wood deck that wraps around the lodge, it's the perfect place to enjoy the silence accompanied by a chilled glass of wine.

During your stay you will embark on morning and afternoon bear viewing sessions, perfectly timed to coincide with when the bears are most active. Accompanied by experienced wildlife biologists you can observe bears roaming freely in their natural habitat as you float quietly by in a boat or from the viewing platforms positioned close to the estuaries. Between bear view sessions the activities continue with guided interpretive rainforest walks, boat excursions and sea kayaking or you may just simply wish to relax.

On your return from the wilderness, gourmet cuisine prepared from the freshest local ingredients awaits. With an emphasis on seafood, the food is plentiful and enjoyed with fellow guests around a large table.

Other wildlife in the area includes wolves, otters, bald eagles, black bears, pine martens and mink.
